Dear Corporate America...

Dear Corporate America,

I have had to live under your influence all my life. I have watched in ever increasing disgust how your influence has garnered more and more influence over our legislative process at the expense of what's best for we the people.

You scare me because you are not driven by society's morals but by profits and growth by any means necessary.

You scare me because most of your decisions are made to make your short term quarterly numbers look good for wall street analysts rather than any long term benefit to society.

You scare me because by virtue of being publicly traded, no one can be effectively held accountable for your actions, not even the CEO or the Board of directors.

You scare me because you and the government have sufficiently built a system that works for both of you, with high barriers to entry for the common citizen insuring that nothing stands in the way of your goals.

You scare me because your access to the legislative process severely undermines my ability to engage MY representatives and participate in the process.

You scare me because somehow lobbying for laws to protect the profits of dying industries and obsolete business models is determined to be more cost effective than investing in more promising endeavors.

And finally, you scare me because I feel the only choice I have now is to choose between Fascism and Socialism. Neither of which represent anything remotely related to the qualities and virtues this country was founded on.

In response to a letter that has been floating around by some corporate drone who's afraid some black guy might transform his way of life. To you sir(e), I say that you are not the one that needs to worry.

Corporations don't scare me

Yes, it's true: corporations do a lot to influence politics. They donate as much as they can to both parties, with the hope that, by doing so, they will generally be left alone. In other words, corporations are frightened by government.

I, for one, am far more frightened by government that I am by any individual, or group of individuals, seeking a profit. For one thing, if I ever come to distrust a corporation, I can simply stop doing business with them. If enough people distrust a corporation, that corporation will collapse (unless it's Too Big To Fail(TM), in which case it will be saved by...GOVERNMENT). If I come to distrust government, there really isn't much I can do about it!

And it isn't just Obama, although he's a Marxist/Fascist (there really is no difference--both are Statist). I didn't trust McCain, either, because he's also into this big-government thing. Nor do I trust Romney or Huckabee, who also display tendencies to have the State interfere with my life.

And yes, I'm afraid of Obama: he's the one who demanded, and signed into law, an attempt to dictate my health care choices. What corporation has ever attempted such an attempt to control the tiny details of my life?

Well I certainly hope that my

Well I certainly hope that my little rant didn't lead you to believe that I am a fan of government or Obama for that matter. In fact I am far from it. However, I have felt this way long before Obama came to power. But it seems a lot of people who are all up in arms about big government now are completely disconnected from the past. Were you this angry when Bush was in power? Or are you merely carrying out orders dictated by the political party you claim allegiance to?

so true...

I completely agree. It's scary. Even more so because it permeates every aspect of American life, to the point where most people don't even notice it.
